As Managing Director, Corporate Occupier & Investor Services (CIS) Transaction Management, Al has day-to-day responsibility for the management of Cushman & Wakefield’s (C&W) larger and more complex Canadian Clients. In his role as a Client Relationship Manager, Al is responsible for understanding our corporate clients’ business, devising solutions and marshalling C&W resources to implement the desired result.
Al works with senior corporate real estate and business unit executives to understand their needs and devise solutions that will become the foundation for ongoing real estate, facilities and project based strategies. Al has considerable experience in the CIS service lines of Project Management, Facility Management, Lease Administration and Account Management, and provides his expertise on a wide variety of issues such as transaction management, performance management, corporate merger and acquisition due diligence, lease negotiation, portfolio optimization, sustainability practices, and real estate consolidation strategies.
Al joined C&W in February 2008, was appointed head of the CIS Transaction Management group in May 2009, and is responsible for the growth and direction of this business line in Canada. Al’s team manages many of C&W’s largest corporate client relationships in Canada and around the world, including those with GE, Microsoft, Celestica, Sun Life, AMEC, Ericsson, Rio Tinto, Aviva, Sears, Investor’s Group, Bridgestone, YMCA, and CMHC.
Al started his real estate career in 1998 with The Gordian Group, a boutique North American real estate advisory and project management firm where he worked for clients such as Call-net, Sprint Canada, Carlson Marketing, Maritz Canada, Quebecor, Towers Perrin, Watson Wyatt, Canadian Tire and Sirius Radio Canada. Al was directly responsible for Gordian’s two largest client relationships, CGI and AMEC, whose combined global real estate portfolios consisted of over 500 sites and approximately 7.0 million square feet. At the same time, Al was growing Gordian’s relationship with the Ontario Realty Corporation, providing a variety corporate real estate advisory services on high profile projects.
Prior to joining Gordian, Al was a lawyer practicing in the area of Environmental Law and was the first articling student for Sierra Legal Defence Fund’s Toronto office. While he does not provide third party legal advice to C&W clients, they often benefit from his legal training in many of the solutions he crafts for them.
Al holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Business from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Osgoode Law School, York University. Al is a past member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and a current member of CoreNet Global and regularly attends training and educational seminars sponsored by CoreNet.
