Andrew Hunter leads Cushman & Wakefield’s Self Storage Advisory Group (SSAG) in the Pacific Northwest. He specializes in the purchase & sale, valuation, and strategic advisory of self-storage facilities. Utilizing national indicators and local market insight Andrew and the C&W SSAG team are available to provide the expertise needed to make the right investment decisions.
Before joining C&W He lead the self storage brokerage and asset management team for SVN in the Pacific Northwest helping clients in the acquisition and disposition of self-storage facilities. Andrew’s real estate experience began in Portland, OR working with both local owners and institutional investors to achieve their real estate goals. Marketing local properties to institutional funds produced win-win solutions for all clients. Focusing on value add multifamily properties, he successfully moved over $25 million in apartment buildings in his first year. Many of the sales involved massive capital gains tax implications that were mitigated to create more value for owners.
Before his time in commercial real estate, he worked at The Boeing Company focusing on capital planning and risk mitigation for 787 manufacturing. Using risk mitigation tactics he enabled the company to procure and install state of the art metal cutting machines all while keeping the flow of airplane parts to final assembly line. Andrew was also trained in the Toyota production system which has many applications to self storage operations.
Andrew also worked for the United State Department of Commerce in Washington, DC while obtaining his MBA. His time at the USDC involved persuading foreign businesses to invest in the United States. Much of this effort was directed at the launching President Obama’s Select USA platform. The USDC and selectusa.gov routed foreign companies to local and federal economic developments to actively encourage foreign direct investment to the US. With the help of his efforts the SelectUSA program has attracted billions of dollars to the US.
Andrew has a MBA from City University and a Bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University where he majored in Business and Communications. He is also an active member of the Self Storage Association, Commercial Brokers Association, and is pursuing his CCIM certification. While not doing all things self storage you can find him being PNW active with his family; hiking, biking, and chasing a white ball around a wet golf course.
