Doug Sugimoto joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2013. A 30-plus-year veteran of Bay Area real estate, Sugimoto spent a significant portion of his career as an in-house commercial real estate executive with some of Silicon Valley’s most notable companies, including Intuit, Silicon Graphics, Covad and 3Com. Sugimoto most recently was Senior Vice President at DTZ, a division of UGL Services, where he led the company’s Silicon Valley office. Before his work at DTZ, Sugimoto was Senior Vice President with Cornish & Carey Commercial Newmark Knight Frank.
Doug’s practice focuses on large complex tenant assignments involving multiple disciplines, solving complex financial issues that affect P&L and/or Balance Sheet and resolution of disparate requirements associated with relocation challenges. Among his many successes in Silicon Valley, Doug represented Informatica in the purchase of its 290,000 sf headquarters buildings in Redwood City; Avaya Communications in a 250,000 sf consolidation and expansion in Santa Clara; and Riverbed Technology in the leasing of a105,000 sf engineering center in Sunnyvale.
The roller coaster nature of Silicon Valley business cycles created many opportunities for Doug to hone his skill at disposing of excess real estate too. He has developed a specialization in the art and skill of subleasing and selling corporate real estate. Notable dispositions include the 500,000 sf former HQ for SGI which became Google’s first corporate campus; subleasing over 450,000 sf on behalf of Ariba and a restructuring of over 450,000 sf in multiple buildings for Intuit.
Doug received his BS in Business Administration from San Jose State University and is a lifelong Bay Area native. He is also a member of Corenet Global.
