The question of the day is “when is the next recession coming?” This expansion will become the second longest in U.S. history tomorrow. Long expansions are not the historical norm—in fact, up through World War II, there was about a 50/50 chance in any given year that the U.S. would be in a recession.

Since then however, recessions have become less frequent. The expansion from 1961 through 1969 is tied as the second longest expansion in U.S. history—that is, until tomorrow, May 1.
