Belvarosi Tanoda Foundatation School

Belvarosi Tanoda Foundatation School
We chose this foundation school, Belvarosi Tanoda with the help of United Way Hungary. The school works with 16-25 olds who did not succeed in the traditional school setting due to various reasons, but would like to get a high school diploma. Most of them deal with instability, low self-esteem, and have learning problems (but they are NOT mentally or physically handicapped). Some come from broken homes, financially disadvantaged families, and/or have history of drug use. This school first of all tries to address their mental health, and provide them with a supportive environment, and an all-day coordinated activity through partnership. Currently the school has about 95 students. Their system is very flexible, and allows students the freedom to go at their own pace, and classes are taught in very small groups. The school has about 15 staff members, so there is a lot of opportunity for personal interaction. The school has very limited funding, and extracurricular activities are kept at a minimum.
