Labor-Focused Industrial Developments Address Hiring, Retention Concerns

9/17/2019
With eCommerce on the rise, fulfillment and reverse logistics are requiring more labor than was traditionally needed in a standard warehouse. In 2019 and 2020, an additional 3.6 million new jobs are anticipated in the U.S. with roughly 680,000 of those concentrated in industrial industries where competition for workers will be especially fierce.

Industrial site selection and park design—long focused on efficiently moving goods—will increasingly focus on design and development amenities that can help attract and retain workers. When it comes to workplace amenities, industrial is starting to catch up with office, and developers like PNK Group are leading the charge, creating labor-focused developments like Southern Gateway at Lambert Farms to attract and retain skilled labor.

Southern Gateway at Lambert Farms is a development that’s the first of its kind, offering top-of-the-line employee amenities that rival those traditionally found in office environments. Labor-focused amenities include a food truck court with recreational amenities, electric charging stations in designated auto lot, an outside gym, potential day care site and a recently completed 2.1-mile landscaped walking trail on site.

Pat Murphy, Senior Managing Director of Cushman & Wakefield’s Industrial Agency Leasing practice shares more on addressing industrial labor concerns in the video below.
