Inaugurated in 1987, the Exponor exhibition center has established itself as a leading platform for business and innovation, having hosted over 900 trade fairs, 205,000 exhibitors, and 13 million visitors throughout its history. Located in Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos, just 15 minutes from downtown Porto and 10 minutes from Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport, it benefits from a prime location, reinforcing its role as a gateway to a dynamic and industrially robust business region.
Since its opening, Exponor has become an autonomous brand of AEP (Associação Empresarial de Portugal) and has since affirmed itself as a reference entity in event organization in Portugal.
It is worth noting that Nexponor submitted a large-scale project to the Matosinhos City Council for the redevelopment and expansion of Exponor, with the Prior Information Request (PIP) approved in April 2024 and currently in effect. The plan includes, in addition to the modernization of the current exhibition center, the creation of a mixed-use development – integrating services, retail, tourism, and housing – with a gross above-ground construction area of approximately 177,000 m².
“The premium location, next to the Port of Leixões and Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, as well as the considerable development potential at the city’s doorstep, make this a highly profitable investment opportunity, anchored in the strong demand for corporate, tourism, and residential spaces in the Porto Metropolitan Area,” highlights Manuel Magalhães, Head of Development at Cushman & Wakefield.
Accessibility will be further enhanced by the future connection to the MetroBus system, currently under implementation, which will link Porto’s city center to Matosinhos via electric vehicles on a dedicated lane, promoting sustainable mobility and urban value.
“This asset represents an exceptional opportunity for an investor to enter or strengthen their position in the Portuguese market through a project with enormous visibility and relevance. Due to its scale and transformative nature, it will create a new central hub near the city of Porto, with a positive impact not only economically, but also socially and environmentally,” added Florence Ricou, CEO of Insula Capital, the management company of the Nexponor fund.
