Cushman & Wakefield has officially commenced operations at the newly completed Waikeria Prison complex, marking the start of a 25-year Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) and full lifecycle management contract.
This Public Private Partnership (PPP) project represents a significant milestone in New Zealand’s correctional infrastructure, with an initial capacity of 600 high-security beds, and an additional 810 beds scheduled for delivery in 2029.
The complex go-live follows the completion of a USD $250 million concession, with Cushman & Wakefield now responsible for the long-term operational performance and asset management of the facility.
Paul Huggins, Managing Director of Cushman & Wakefield New Zealand, said “Waikeria Prison is a landmark project for New Zealand, and we’re proud to be entrusted with its long-term management.
“The successful go-live reflects the depth of expertise and collaboration across our teams, and our commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and future-ready facilities for our clients and communities.”
