Uffgebassd! (look out!!) Frankfurt’s residents “babble” the Hessian dialect. In convivial company they like to “sneak” a Bembel (jug) of Eppelwoi (apple wine/cider) and “clean-up” Grie Soß (green herb sauce) with new potatoes and eggs. And those who like it really hearty should try the traditional local delicacy “Handkäs with music” (fresh cheese with onions). When deciding where to go out in Frankfurt, you are spoilt for choice. There are almost 2,500 restaurants to choose from. The cultural offerings in the youthful university city are just as great. A visit to the Alte Oper, a lecture at the German National Library or a gig in one of the many clubs - in Frankfurt everyone will find something to their taste. Every year, 2.2 million guests are attracted to the multicultural and cosmopolitan city of 700,000 inhabitants with 180 nationalities.

Its excellent infrastructure also makes Frankfurt extremely attractive as a business location: the largest cargo airport in continental Europe, the busiest German railway station, a very well-developed motorway network and the central inland shipping routes of the rivers Main and Rhine are all in the immediate vicinity. It is not without reason that companies from a wide variety of sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, industry and automation, have settled in the Main metropolis. The financial sector, of course, remains a major keystone of Frankfurt’s economy. In addition to almost all the major German banks, the Deutsche Bundesbank, the German Stock Exchange and the European Central Bank have their headquarters here.

Office market Frankfurt Q1 2023
Moderate but robust start to the year on the Frankfurt office market

The year began with moderate take-up in the Frankfurt office market, reports international real estate consultancy firm Cushman & Wakefield (C&W). Lettings and owner-occupation deals totalling 92,200 sq m were completed in the first quarter.

Commercial real estate transaction volume in the Frankfurt market amounted to around 165 million euros in Q1 2023. Compared to a year earlier, this corresponds to a decline of 93 percent. The 10-year average was also undershot by 85 percent.
