Across key institutional Living sector markets in Asia–Pacific, the last three years have seen governments make a series of policy moves that affect the sector’s investment landscape. Policy movement has not been uniform and there is plenty of scope to do more but the broad direction is clear: more formal recognition of new rental typologies, improving tax treatment, more use of global talent and students as growth levers, and more willingness to trade policy support for affordability and social outcomes.
