Landmark Opportunity for Early Childhood Providers in Canberra’s National Triangle

Jess Freeman • 16/12/2025
The Australian Government is seeking to strengthen worker amenities within the National Triangle to accommodate the emerging National Security Office Precinct and the growing number of government employees in the area. As part of this commitment, the Australian Government is offering a rare opportunity to secure a long-term licence at the John Gorton Campus Early Childhood Education and Care Centre, a new purpose-built facility strategically located in the heart of Parkes – Canberra’s prime office precinct.

The Centre would occupy the ground floor of a newly constructed multi-storey car park adjacent to the John Gorton Building. With up to 2,600 sqm of internal space and 1,800 sqm of enclosed outdoor areas, the service could accommodate up to 134 places [pending regulatory approval].

Unlike many retrofitted centres, this opportunity can offer the flexibility of a purpose-built design to meet operational needs, generous outdoor space, and seamless drop-off access with over 1,000 car parking spaces.

Fit-out completion is targeted for early 2027. The proposed arrangements are planned to include a long-term licence plus extension options, ensuring long-term security for the successful provider.

The Department of Finance is seeking to engage a capable and experienced provider to operate the Centre. Early engagement will enable collaboration during the fit-out phase to ensure the service is fit-for-purpose and supports strong outcomes for children and families.
