There is a lot of anxiety around inflation, tight labor market conditions and the prospect of rising interest rates these days. A disconnect between supply and demand — still vulnerable to labor shortages and freight bottlenecks — brought about the sharpest climb in the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) in 40 years. In many Western nations and regions, consumer price growth is reaching a multi-decade high.
As global events (including the economic impacts of the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) unfold, already surging energy prices are being further pressured, as are a number of raw materials and commodities. At the same time, the Federal Reserve is issuing interest rate hikes, as are other major central banks.
