- How did you get into the real estate market?
I have my father to thank who introduced me to a great friend of his who was in the sector, and who mentored me into an analyst role which evolved from there.
- What is happening in your sector right now?
The industrial market is currently in the midst of its most structural and powerful growth phase in history, which is making for a very dynamic and buoyant market. Demand has been supported by a secular upswing from rapidly evolving technology, demographic shifts and an acceleration in trends such as e-commerce growth and ESG.
- What advice would you give tenants right now?
Act quickly under the right advice in order to navigate what is a problematic environment for occupiers. Low vacancy rates and limited supply both in terms and land and built form will continue the rental growth story, so market intelligence coupled with accurate data will ensure you make the right commercial decision for your business.
- What advice would you give owners right now?
Be more strategic than ever, in order to capitalise on the market conditions. There has never been a more opportunistic time to maximise the commercial performance of your asset, but counter to that, now is the time to know what is driving the performance of your asset whilst identifying what volatilities and risks lie ahead.
- What is the best piece of career advice you've ever been given?
Always ask lots of questions - you don’t ask- you don’t receive. And in addition, opportunities are often disguised as hard work, which is the reason most people don’t see them!
- What is one of the most exciting/ challenging or interesting properties you've sold and why?
I was lucky enough to be part of the team that successfully divested the Milestone Portfolio, the largest ever single real estate transactions in Australian history, which for the main part was concluded whilst Australia was in lockdown for Covid. The experience and knowledge I gained from working with the core team in this program was so valuable to me personally, and really reinforced just how important culture and connectivity is in everything we do both internally and externally with our clients.
- What advice would you give someone looking to get into a role in Industrial?
Pick up the phone and ask for an opportunity!
