About
Jim Laing is a Senior Director with over 41 years of experience in commercial real estate, specializing in urban and suburban office properties. Mr. Laing’s geographic area of expertise ranges from Downtown San Diego through Mission Valley and Kearny Mesa, North to Scripps Ranch and Carmel Mountain. The majority of his efforts are on behalf of the owners of the office projects, with tenant representation limited to a small referral based groups of clients.
Mr. Laing has been involved from the “ground up” in the design – development of numerous office projects with the specific objective of a rapid lease-up, rent-roll stability and increased value. He continues to lease the majority of those projects on behalf of the original developer or subsequent owners, as a result of sales to institutional investors. These projects have ranged in size and quality from Class B Suburban low-rise medical office buildings to Class A Downtown high-rise office towers.

- Provided on-going, direct assistance to the Sharp facilities and real estate management team for their 3rd party real estate portfolio. Assisted in property and transaction assessments/negotiations for Sharp assets and related physician based office requirements, both clinical and administrative.
Education
Mr. Laing is a native to Iowa, with an educational background in Engineering/Architecture from Loras University in Dubuque, Iowa. He spent eleven years as a Naval Flight Officer in San Diego and Southeast Asia and seven years as a general contractor. He has been recognized as an annual “Top
Producer” on multiple occasions as well as receiving the Malin Burnham Award of Excellence. He provided operational oversight for an annual La Jolla-UCSD School of Medicine fund-raising event for a period of ten years, achieving over $1,000,000 in net contributions to the UCSD School of Medicine.
