Steven A. Soutendijk joined Cushman & Wakefield Retail Services in 2004. Mr. Soutendijk represents many of Manhattan’s most prominent property owners, and has been instrumental in arranging transactions involving some of New York’s most recognizable retailers. Prior to joining C&W, Mr. Soutendijk worked at CBRE’s Retail Group. He is currently the chairman of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY)’s Retail Committee and is quoted regularly by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and other trade publications regarding urban retail real estate matters. 

As owner representative, Mr. Soutendijk has negotiated numerous transactions on behalf of Landlords such as Boston Properties, Brookfield, SL Green, Paramount Group, Rudin Management, Invesco, The Carlyle Group, Crown Acquisitions, Wharton Realty, Bowtie Partners, L&L Holding Company and Columbia Property Trust, among many other institutional and local landlords.  He was involved in two transactions that were nominated for the Real Estate Board of New York’s Annual “Retail Deal of the Year:” the American Eagle Times Square flagship transaction, at 1551 Broadway, and the JP Morgan Chase transaction at 530 Fifth Avenue.   

Mr. Soutendijk has spearheaded some of the largest flagship transactions in Manhattan, including the recent transaction with Swarovski at 680 Fifth Avenue, arranged the recent leases at the General Motors Building on Fifth Avenue – Under Armour’s 60,000 SF flagship, Christian Dior, Balenciaga and the Cartier relocation on 59th Street. He was a part of the team who leased the retail condominium at 666 Fifth Avenue - Hollister in over 22,500 square feet; and Uniqlo in over 90,000 square feet. Soutendijk has flagship experience in lower Manhattan including the 30,000 SF flagship lease for Zara at 222 Broadway on behalf of L&L Holding Company, in addition to the Anthropologie transaction at the landmarked 195 Broadway. He also recently represented Brookfield on its 20,000 SF lease with Eataly at 200 Lafayette Street. 

In the tenant representation area, Mr. Soutendijk has worked on transactions involving prominent national retailers such as Charles Schwab, Swatch Group, Unilever, and JP Morgan Chase. He was instrumental in the relocation of the world-renowned watchmaker Audemars Piguet to a new flagship on East 57th Street and facilitated a huge flagship transaction for the Korean telecom company, LINE Friends, at 1515 Broadway. He also worked on the team that facilitated one of the largest deals in Fifth Avenue history, the Swatch brand leases (Omega, Breguet, and Harry Winston) at the St. Regis Hotel. 

Awards & Recognition

Mr. Soutendijk has been involved in two transactions that were nominated for the Real Estate Board of New York’s Annual Retail Deal of the Year Award: the American Eagle Times Square flagship transaction at 1551 Broadway; and the JP Morgan Chase transaction at 530 Fifth Avenue.

Assignments

Mr. Soutendijk’s current high-profile assignments include representing Invesco in the leasing of 130 Prince Street; representing L3 Capital in the leasing of 72 – 76 Greene Street; and representing Boston Properties in leasing the retail at its new Class A office building at 250 West 55th Street.

In the tenant representation area, Mr. Soutendijk has worked on transactions involving prominent national retailers such as Charles Schwab, China Grill Management, Ecko, Garrett Popcorn Shops, Fireman Hospitality Group and JP Morgan Chase. In 2008, he relocated the world-renowned watchmaker Audemars Piguet to a new flagship on East 57th Street.

Education

Mr. Soutendijk holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York, the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association. In addition, Mr. Soutendijk is on the board of City Meals-on-Wheels and well as a member of the board of Creative Arts Works.
