CWFL organized the week-long series of events designed to inspire and educate. Employees dedicated a number of quality hours over the course of the work week to understanding the importance of taking care of their overall health and wellness.
CWFL’s primary mission for the employee program was to help enhance individual and collective wellbeing in order to foster motivation and engagement both inside and outside of work. With so much emphasis on ‘doing’ all the time,’ especially in the fast-paced Bay Area, team leaders from CWFL—in particular our own Austen Peterson who orchestrated the week’s events—felt it highly beneficial (plus fun) to provide encouraging and active environments where employees could focus, reflect and learn more about how they can prioritize and implement wellness into their everyday life.
Fittingly kicking off CWFL’s week of wellness, on Monday Cushman & Wakefield employees took part in a calming 20-minute meditation session (deemed ‘Meditation Monday’) at one o’clock in the afternoon. The guided meditation was facilitated with Headspace. According to Austen, the session allowed participants to take a few minutes out of a busy work day to ground themselves and set an intention for the week ahead. Then, following a full day’s work on Tuesday, the CWFL team arranged an evening yoga session. The 60-minute Vinyasa Flow was led by Karly Simpson of CorePower Yoga.
And wrapping up the week, during Thursday’s lunch hour, CWFL hosted a special lunch and learn led by Ariel Szilagyi of Fueled by Four. Ariel discussed practical ways in which folks can make themselves more aware of their overall wellness at work and in life. The session was called, ‘Move better, eat cleaner, sleep deeper: the integrated effect of exercise, nutrition, and recovery on cognitive function and overall wellness’. The lunch was sponsored by Kitava restaurant in San Francisco, who prepared nourishing, whole foods for the entire office to enjoy. Ricky Zhang, a CWFL Committee member, said of the experience, “One of the very cool things we learned from Ariel was Fire Breathing and Boxed Breathing to help awaken our senses and to help relax us before slumber.”
Ricky further expressed, “CWFL was extremely pleased to be able to assemble such a fun yet relaxing week and that Cushman & Wakefield whole heartedly supported such an effort. We thank everyone who was part of it and helped, and a very special shout out to our extraordinary Austen who masterminded our Week of Wellness and helped bring so much peace, zen and harmony into our offices.”
Looking to continue with their goal of promoting an active and healthy lifestyle beyond just the week, CWFL’s Patrick Symes will also soon be heading up a new Jogging Club for all members of our firm to join. This new club will consist of a series of fun runs in coming weeks traversing various areas of scenic San Francisco followed by celebratory social gatherings at local hot spots. Plus, adding to the physical and mental exercise jogging provides, Patrick may also be mixing in some linguistical fitness by helping educate (and perhaps amuse) the team by training them how to perfect their British accents.
