As we look beyond COVID-19 one thing that stands out is the healthy outlook for the U.S. consumer. After enduring a year of forced quarantines, lockdowns and closings, households are itching to spend, and they have the wherewithal to do so. The U.S. just passed three of the largest government stimulus packages on record which boosted household income and savings. This urge to spend combined with the vaccine rollout is a recipe for a boom in retail real estate. As stores, restaurants and entertainment venues reopen demand for retail space is likely to take off. We expect the next few years to be a period for strong growth in many retail sectors.
