New York City recently passed the Climate Mobilization Act, a package of bills and resolutions that aims to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of New York City. The provision with the deepest implications for the industry is Introduction 1253, which mandates certain buildings over 25,000 square feet meet greenhouse gas emission limits.

This legislation has the potential to directly impact asset operations and plans for capital improvements. It will be necessary for owners to factor in potential carbon emissions when reviewing upcoming capital improvement projects.
