Hispanic Heritage Month Article

Q: Do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?

Yes, over the past few years, especially with colleagues.

Q: What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?

Iris RosaIt’s about celebrating my own journey while highlighting how much others have contributed to the Hispanic and Latino culture through their success stories in many different industries. The Hispanic and Latino culture becomes part of American history in a positive and meaningful way each time a Hispanic or Latino is successful, and that to me is worth celebrating.

Q: What aspects of your culture have served as a unique asset to you in your professional success?

Two aspects from the Latino culture that have served me are work ethic and resilience. The Latino culture taught me a work ethic is not only about showing up on time, it’s also being consistent with the quality of your work and the value it can bring to others. Resilience, for me growing up Latino, has given me the ability to bounce back from tough situations and offer solutions that will benefit all parties. It’s such a pride to be able to implement both of these assets on a daily basis to successfully serve my clients, employer and stakeholders.

Q: How do you think HOLA, the new Employee Resource Group (ERG) for Hispanic and Latino colleagues, will be beneficial to our company:

I’m honored to be the Membership Committee Chair of HOLA. I think HOLA is going to super-expand our professional networks. We have close to 200 members and growing and representation from seven countries already! All HOLA members will be able to share best practices, cultural knowledge and generate new business for Cushman & Wakefield.

Q: How have you seen diversity as a valuable asset in our business?

Our clients rely on our extensive range of expertise and market knowledge—diversity is a valuable asset and part of the customer experience.

Q: What are ways that all employees can be champions for diversity in the workplace?

Recognizing that we are all different and able to bring our unique contributions to the business makes anyone a champion for diversity. Cushman & Wakefield offers many different ERGs in which we can all participate, and collaborate to bring a more diverse work environment to others.
